As a discipline, Communication focuses on how people use verbal and nonverbal messages to transmit meaning to other individuals. Given that communication occurs in a wide variety of settings, the discipline of communication focuses on how meaning is made in various contexts, cultures, and settings. Communication courses allow students to take a social scientific and interdisciplinary look at human communication and the role that it plays in our lives by focusing on areas such as interpersonal communication, mediation and dispute resolution, intercultural communication, and in specific contexts like business communication, health communication, political communication, public relations, and visual arts.
A degree with a concentration in Communication offers many career opportunities. Career Coach allows you to explore different career options for the degree you are pursuing. You can even take a look at each job title to see an in-depth overview, salary, job growth, and live job postings.
Degree Pathways outline one possible sequence of courses students may complete to fulfill their degree requirements as full-time students over the course of two years.
