The day started over in the WIlliam S White Parking Lot of UM Flint for the start of the Centennial Parade which wound through downtown Flint, into the Flint Cultural Center and concluded on the main campus of MCC. The Honorable Duncan Beagle was the moderator and the panel consisted of Tom Yeotis, Justus Thigpen, Al Perry, Shawn Brown, Nancy Dash and Coach Steve Schmidt. The panel covered the rich athletic history of MCC from its earliest days that included football and basketball teams and the “sportsters,” the first women’s athletic organization founded in the early 1930s, to today’s nationally ranked men’s basketball and e-sports teams. International Overdose Awareness DayAugust 31, 2023The Genesee County prevention coalition staged its third-annual Overdose Awareness Day on August 31. The day is used to bring attention to the number of overdose deaths in our county and to urge the community to be more vigilant in combating drug abuse. There have been 1,050 overdose deaths in the last five years in Genesee County. As part of the effort, the GCPC planted 1,000 purple flags on the Mott Community College's main campus along Court Street to create a visual reminder about this important issue. MCC Chapter of Women in Education CeremonyAugust 22, 2023A small ceremony was held by the MCC Women in Education (WIE) chapter to honor MCC graduate Kelly Minto and recognize current MCC student Mayama Anter. Minto was honored for efforts and activities with WIE during her time as a student and received a scholarship of $2,000.
