This degree will prepare students for jobs in the corrections fields, which include federal and state prisons, county and city jails, halfway houses, probation and parole departments, and private security. This degree also fulfills the educational requirements to be eligible to apply to enter a state-approved training program for the position of corrections officer with the Michigan Department of Corrections. Students must earn a 2.0 in all CORR, CRJU, SOCY and PSYC coursework to maintain eligibility for MDOC training.

Students who have successfully completed a Michigan Police Officer Academy, a police academy in another U.S. state, or a United States federal law enforcement academy may be eligible to receive 16 articulated credits toward Mott Community College's Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Criminal Justice or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Corrections.

To qualify, students must provide proof of academy completion or certification and be in good standing with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), a comparable law enforcement standards agency in another U.S. state, or a federal law enforcement agency. There is no time limit on when the academy was completed. Articulated credits are awarded after the student successfully completes five 100- or 200-level Mott Community College courses (excluding the courses listed above) with a grade of 2.0 (C) or higher. These five courses may be Criminal Justice, Corrections, General Education, or other eligible MCC courses. Students need to be enrolled in a Criminal Justice or Corrections program to receive the articulated credit. The credits apply toward completion of the A.A.S. in Criminal Justice or A.A.S. in Corrections.
Students who have successfully completed the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Corrections Officer Academy, another U.S. state's Corrections Officer Academy, or the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Corrections Officer Academy may be eligible to receive 9 articulated credits toward Mott Community College's Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Criminal Justice or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Corrections.

There is no time limit on when the academy was completed. Articulated credits are awarded after the student successfully completes five 100- or 200-level courses at Mott Community College (excluding the courses listed above) with a grade of 2.0 (C) or higher. These five courses may include Criminal Justice, Corrections, General Education, or other eligible MCC courses. Students need to be enrolled in a Criminal Justice or Corrections program to receive the articulated credit. People with criminal records may not be eligible for civil service positions, but may be eligible to work in private industry or for non-profits (e.g., security, halfway houses, etc.).
