Dropping credits can have significant financial consequences.

Please review the following points carefully:

  1. Return to Title IV (R2T4)

If you are receiving federal financial aid (such as Pell Grants or Direct Loans) and you withdraw from all your classes, the college is required by law to perform a Return to Title IV calculation.

    • This determines how much aid you "earned" based on the amount of time you spent in class.
    • If you withdraw early in the semester, you may be required to repay a portion of your federal grants or loans immediately.
  2. Michigan Achievement Community College Guarantee (CCG)

If you are a recipient of the Michigan Achievement Community College Guarantee, please note that this award often requires full-time enrollment (at least 12 credit hours).

    • If dropping this class brings you below full-time status, you may lose your eligibility for the CCG for the entire semester.
    • This could result in a balance due to the college that you would be responsible for paying.
  3. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Beyond immediate repayment, dropping classes affects your completion rate. Falling below the required completion rate (67%) can jeopardize your ability to receive any financial aid in future semesters.

Before you finalize a drop, It is strongly recommended that you:

  • Contact the Financial Aid Office at 810-762-0144 to get a personalized assessment of your account.
  • Speak with your Success Coach or Instructor to see if there are alternatives, such as tutoring, help with time management, or other resources to help you be successful.
