How Outcomes and Assessments are Measured

Mott Community College has three overarching essential learning outcomes: critical thinking, citizenship, and global awareness. MCC participates in the following three assessments to measure each of these outcomes as well as drive curriculum change and professional development. They are:

  • Community College Survey of Student Engagement/Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE/CCFSSE): This is a national assessment administered biannually in odd-numbered winter semesters to assess student engagement in a number of areas including the three essential learning outcomes
  • Essential Learning Outcomes Assessment (ELOA): This a locally prepared instrument is administered every fall semester. It directly measures MCC students engagement with the three overarching essential learning outcomes.
  • Course Level Assessment (CLA): this custom tool is administered every winter semester and rotates on a five-year, group cycle. During the five-year cycle all faculty, across all courses assess the effectiveness of their course level learning outcomes. Here they reflect, in their own words on how they can increase or maintain proficiency and mastery in their course.
