What is this program?

Upward Bound is a Federally funded education program aimed at increasing academic and motivational levels of low income and First Generation high school students so that they will graduate and successfully pursue a college education.

Through early intervention, Upward Bound targets students in grades nine through twelve who appear to have the capacity for college but need support and guidance to fully realize this potential. To achieve this goal, Upward Bound serves Low Income, and or First Generation* high school students. Students must also be attending Flint Southwestern Academy, or Mott Middle College School.

There are 2 components to our program:

  • First component is an intensive 6-week academic summer program where students come to Mott Community College from 8:15 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Second component is the Academic year where students come after high school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 6:00 pm for academic instruction and tutoring.
