Experience and Social Skill Building Summer Employment

Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) an eight-week program that aids youth ages 14-18 currently in grades 9th -12th. The program runs from June 30th through September 1st. Youth are prepared for and connected with employment opportunities in several fields. Youth will gain more than just employment; they will also develop work experience, learn valuable social skills, and make connections that could one day direct them toward their dream job. Youth will participate in a community volunteer day as a part of the program giving the youth a sense of community pride and investment.

  • Office and Telephone Etiquette
  • General Filing
  • Community Outreach
  • Marketing

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Complete and Submit Teen Quest application
  • Successfully complete the Teen Quest pre-employment leadership training
  • 14 to 18 years old
  • Currently in grades 9th through 12th
  • Reside and attend schools in Genesee County, either public, private, charter, alternative, or home school
  • Attend Job Fair
  • Attend mandatory parent and youth orientation
